Up for an early breakfast in the Executive Lounge and then my driver took me to the airport. With the rainy season in full force, the mosquitoes were awful the last day - I'm scratching all over and somewhat congested due to all of the humidity in the air.
There were reports of troops in the streets of Bangkok last night - so this is probably a good time to be leaving. Perhaps another military coup????
My Thai Airlines flight takes me to Hong Kong and I arrived there mid afternoon right on schedule. The R. Crusoe Tour host was there to greet me and put me in a limousine and escorted me into Kowloon to the Intercontinental Hotel. She even called Tim to let him know that we were on the way. A nice personal touch.
Check in was swift and we have the most beautiful suite overlooking Hong Kong Harbor and Hong Kong Island. Our huge picture window down the entire length of the room frames in the many high rises on Hong Kong Island. The lights at night are spectacular.
I've had the sniffles from the AC in Bangkok and flying. Rented a "personal spa room" in the hotel spa and enjoyed the steam room, and sauna - that helped dry me out a bit.
After cocktails in the Executive Lounge (and nibbles!), Tim and I took the Star Ferry across the Harbor to Hong Kong Island to go to a special restaurant in Aberdeen - Jumbo. We had seen it on TV and it is quite famous - a floating restaurant on the south end of Hong Kong. It was huge and packed since it was Mothers' Day. We tried abalone - a tough shelled seafood delicacy - glad I tried it but didn't like it. Tim especially savored the lobster, and we both enjoyed the bok choy with crab and shrimp with almonds. A great meal! We were glad that we ventured way out for the dinner. A taxi took us back to the Central Ferry terminal at the ICS Building (tallest building in HK), the Star Ferry brought us back across to Kowloon where our hotel is. A short walk later and we were back at the Intercontinental.
I was beat after a long day so we retired for our first night in Hong Kong.
